Vacant house forms — download now!

March 20, 2007

Getting ready to head north/to Europe/RVing for the summer?

Before you depart, visit the Naples Police site and download the vacant property form. (From the home page, select “outreach” to find the form.) Once you’ve completed the form, you can drop it off at the police department, fax it back to them or put it into the snail mail. (Check back here shortly, and all the relevant info will be posted.)

Officer Keith A. Mason of the Naples Police and Emergency Services explains that once these forms are returned to the PD and entered into the system, he receives a copy. He is then able to place the home on his patrol, and it will be checked once a week by himself or another officer.

However: If you stay later or return early to Naples, please let the department know by phone. Many times, Mason said, officers have checked a home and found it unlocked, only to inspect it further, believing the homeowners are away. Of course, in this situation, if there’s nothing amiss and especially if it’s midnight — well, everyone gets a good story to tell over the next night’s mojitos.

Officer Mason is Coquina Sand’s point-person for crime-related concerns. Email him up at kmason@naplesgov.com

Important alert for pets/pedestrians!

February 21, 2007

This is an important alert for Coquina Sands pedestrians and pet-walkers. If you or your pet is attacked by a vicious animal in the neighborhood, please call Domestic Animal Services (530-7387)to report the attack. Florida statutes require documentation before such an animal can be designated as dangerous. And without documentation, no restraints can be imposed.

It must be the person who was attacked that makes this call, because you will have to make a sworn statement!
